Saponin, also known as "saponin glycoside" or "glycoside grass glycoside", is a type of complex glycosides (glycosides) widely distributed in the plant kingdom (Rosaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Dioscoreaceae, etc.). Its aqueous solution can generate persistent foam similar to soap liquid, hence its name. According to the basic chemical structure of sapogenin produced by saponin hydrolysis, it can generally be divided into two categories: steroidal saponins (found in the Polygonatum sibiricum plant and having a cardiotonic effect) and triterpenoid saponins (found in soap roots and soap skins but without cardiotonic effect).

Chemical property

Saponin components are used as emulsifiers, detergents, foaming agents in textiles and daily chemical industries, as well as in pharmaceuticals

Purpose:

1. Applied in fields such as light industry, chemical industry, pesticides, feed, aquaculture, textile, oil extraction, mining, building materials, and highway construction

2. Saponin can be used in clinical laboratory tests for measuring blood oxygen capacity and oxygen content; Determination of metal in milk detergent by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry; Electronic counting is used to locate tumor cells in the blood surrounding white blood cells.

3. A secondary metabolite that facilitates the permeation of proteins through the cell membrane.

4. Used as an emulsifier, foaming agent, and preservative, as well as an intermediate in the manufacture of steroid hormone drugs. Saponins are amphiphilic glycosides and surfactants.
