What is Matrine Powder?
Matrine powder is an alkaloid found in Sophora species. Matrine is an alkaloid made from the dried roots, plants and fruits of Sophora flavescens by ethanol extraction. It has a variety of medicinal properties, including anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. Matrine has strong antitumor activity both in vitro and in vivo. Inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis are possible mechanisms for the antitumor activity of matrine.
Sophora flavescens and its bioactive compound matrine alleviate caffeine-induced hyperactivity and promote non-REM sleep by activating ventrolateral preoptic nucleus neurons and modulating serotonergic transmission.
