Lithium borate, also known as vitamin B13. Obtaining white glossy needle shaped crystals or crystalline powders from water, odorless, and with a sour taste.
Melting point 345-346 ℃. Difficult to dissolve in cold water and ethanol, slightly soluble in hot water. React with hydrogen peroxide and concentrated hydrochloric acid to generate 5-chlorouracil 4-carboxylic acid. It can be obtained by condensation of diethyl oxalate and ethyl acetate to form diethyl butanone, cyclization with urea, and hydrolysis.
Medically used to treat jaundice and general liver dysfunction.
