Prilocaine is an advanced local anesthetic of the amino amide type, originally created by Claes Tegner and Nils Lö Fgren. Known in its injectable form as Citanest, prilocaine is widely utilized in dental procedures.
It is frequently combined with lidocaine to formulate EMLA, a topical preparation for dermal anesthesia, addressing conditions such as paresthesia.
Thanks to its minimal cardiac toxicity, prilocaine is often chosen for intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA).
