Saw palmetto extract is an extract of the fruit of Serenoa repens. It is rich in fatty acids and phytosterols. It has been used in traditional, eclectic, and alternative medicine for a variety of indications, most notably benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Sawleaf palm has the function of inhibiting prostatic hyperplasia, antibacterial effect, constricting blood vessels, strengthening muscle, anti mucous membrane, diuresis and so on. It is mainly used in the treatment of prostatic hypertrophy, impotence, sexual dysfunction, kidney disease, cystitis, orchitis, bronchitis, anorexia, nasal congestion and breast hyperplasia.
1. Prevents hair loss
Saw palmetto extract is often used to balance hormone levels and combat hair loss. Saw palmetto may ward off hair loss and increase hair density by decreasing levels of a specific enzyme related to hair loss.
2. Improves urinary tract function
Saw palmetto extract may improve urinary tract function and could aid in the treatment of urinary tract symptoms caused by BPH. Still, more research is needed.
3. May support prostate health
Test-tube studies show that saw palmetto may help decrease the growth of prostate cancer cells. It may also help improve symptoms of BPH.
4. May decrease inflammation
Saw palmetto extract may have anti-inflammatory properties, which could be beneficial in treating certain conditions. Saw palmetto is high in antioxidants and has been shown to decrease inflammation in some animal studies. Nonetheless, more high-quality human studies are needed.
5. May help regulate levels
Test-tube and human studies show that saw palmetto could decrease the activity of an enzyme that converts to DHT, helping to maintain levels naturally.
1.Saw palmetto is used for treatment of stomachache and dysentery
2. It is also used as a diuretic and sexual tonic.
3. Saw palmetto fruits began to gain popularity for its proven efficacy particularly in preventing and treating Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia(BPH) and hair loss.
